Support for the everyday work behind caring.

Caring involves preparing, noticing, recording and following up - often when a multitude of people and services are involved. MyCarerHub is being developed around these responsibilities for foster, kinship, permanent and respite carers.

The responsibilities surrounding each child.

These areas often overlap. A health appointment may affect school attendance; a change in care may involve new people and documents. The design brings them around the individual child while keeping each child’s records distinct.

Child or young person

Their needs, identity and voice
  • Health & medication

Current medicines, allergies, authorities, appointments and advice from health professionals.
  • Education & learning

School contacts, reports, learning and behaviour plans, attendance and transport arrangements.
  • Family, identity & culture

Important relationships, family time, cultural connections and the things that matter to each child.
  • People & services

Who is involved, their role, how to contact them and the support or decisions they contribute.
  • Documents & decisions

Authorities, plans, correspondence and supporting records, with their dates and review needs.
  • Care arrangements

Placement details, temporary stays and transitions, including the people and dates involved.

The work that keeps care organised.

Appointments & follow-up

Prepare for the commitment. Follow through afterwards.Keep the time, location and relevant information together. Record what was agreed, who will act and when a response or review is due.

Communication & advocacy

Build a clear account of what needs attention.Record observations, conversations and decisions with their dates. Bring relevant history to meetings and review the information you intend to share.

Expenses & supporting records

Keep the detail behind each cost.Associate receipts, travel and other care expenses with the relevant child or household. Track a claim’s status and the supporting information still needed.
Across a household, commitments may be shared. Each child’s details and follow-up still need to be identifiable.

When care arrangements change.

A temporary stay and the end of a placement are different events. The design records each appropriately, preserving the underlying placement during a temporary arrangement and keeping a clear account of changes.

A clear care history

Record what changed, when, who was involved and what needs to happen next.
  • Temporary arrangementsA separate stay or absence, with its own dates and return details.
  • TransitionsPreparation, agreed steps and the people supporting the move.
  • Placement changesThe ending or new arrangement, its decisions and required handover.

Access, handover and retention must follow the applicable requirements. A connected history does not mean carers can keep records indefinitely.

Help shape a more useful MyCarerHub.

We are preparing a trial with ten participants: foster and kinship carers and child safety sector employees. Practical feedback will help us improve everyday workflows before a wider release.
